PROGRAM AND EVENT PLANNING
Volunteers assist with or take a leadership role in planning and implementing special Events sponsored by the Gillespie County Historical Society. 

GERMAN MEAL AND OTHER FOOD PREPARATION
Volunteers assist in preparing our social hall and a traditional German Meal for a tour group, including decorating, shopping for food, serving, and clean up.   

COLLECTIONS AND ARCHIVES
· Identifying, cataloging and digitizing photographs
· Database management (creating artifact and donor records in a museum software database)
· Inventory (includes cleaning, labeling, photographing, and wrapping/ boxing artifacts)
· General housekeeping of historic structures and exhibited artifacts
· Conduct research (includes artifacts, genealogy, exhibits)

GROUNDS, GARDENING AND OUTDOOR PROJECTS
Volunteers assist with maintaining the landscaping, flower beds and walkways, along with the upkeep on some outdoor exhibits such as wagons, stonewalls and seating areas on the grounds. 

MAIL OUTS AND OTHER OFFICE TASKS
Volunteers will assist with mail outs and other office tasks including, but not limited to, selling tickets in the office, distributing handouts for events, general errands, answering the phone and making phone calls. 

PHOTOGRAPHY AND FINE ART PROJECTS
Volunteers assist with or take a leadership role in serving as a photographer at an event that the Historical Society would like to document, photographing artifacts in the collection or photographing the historic buildings and exhibits on the grounds. 

COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY AND AUDIO VISUAL PRODUCTION
Volunteers knowledgeable in computer software/ hardware assist with various technology problems that arise with the Historical Society office computers.  Additionally, assistance is occasionally needed to set up our sound system, projector and screen for various programs and presentations held at the Society.  

MUSEUM ENTRANCE AND GIFT SHOP ASSISTANCE
Volunteers assist with the sale of books, gifts, and other inventory.  Additionally, assistance is needed to greet visitors and help with the orientation of the historic Dambach-Besier House and Museum grounds.

ORAL HISTORIES
Volunteers assist in establishing/maintaining an Oral History Committee, to make overtures to local citizens to request an oral history, conduct interviews, and transcribe the interviews for the Historical Society archives.  By conducting oral history interviews, you can help the Society capture a more complete record of the people who built our community, to preserve Gillespie County history for generations to come. Oral History training will be made available to volunteers in this critical area.
